IOWA SKATES BY McKENDREE HOCKEY TEAM, 6-3

(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 4)—The McKendree College hockey team was defeated at home Friday night by the University of Iowa, 6-3. The contest was played at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.

      The Bearcats mounted a rally from a 4-0 deficit after two periods, but could not overcome the IceHawks in the closing minutes. McKendree drops to 6-11-0 on the year and will host Iowa again Saturday at 3 p.m. at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex.

      In Friday’s contest, the IceHawks led 1-0 after one period before exploding for three goals to take a 4-0 lead into the second intermission. Freshman wing Zach Crawford (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) broke up the shutout with a power-play goal early through the third period. With just over 11 minutes remaining, freshman center/wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) brought McKendree within 4-2. After Iowa regained a three-goal margin, sophomore wing Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) helped the Bearcats rally within 5-3 on an even-strength goal with 5:16 left.

      However, the IceHawks collected an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal the victory.

      Freshman defenseman Chris Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) added two assists for McKendree. Junior Marcus Power (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) had 18 saves in goal for the Bearcats, who outshot the IceHawks 46-24.
